Delivering on the Promise of Deregulation through Choice

Initial deregulation of the wholesale power markets occurred in 1978, and accelerated in 1992 with the passage of the Energy Policy Act. As power markets across the U.S. have continued to deregulate since 1992, this has led to the creation of numerous large ISOs (PJM, Nepool, MISO, etc.), which has in turn led to the development of a physical market for electricity.  Today’s electricity markets are used by virtually every entity that has price exposure to the electricity markets, including power generators, utilities, merchant energy groups, hedge funds, retail energy providers (“REPs”), commercial and industrial companies, and consumers.

As the power markets have grown in size and volatility, price transparency and information flow have grown in importance. Volatile fuel prices and unpredictable weather patterns mean comprehensive price discovery is essential to anyone with power price exposure. NWEG has vast experience in all regions of the North American power grid, including West Power (WECC), East Power (PJM and ISO-NE), MISO and ERCOT, as well as a few other power markets. At NWEG, our electricity brokerage staff is always fully apprised of market information, thereby enabling NWEG to facilitate all of your financial transactional requirements, including both fixed price and managed products.

North American natural gas prices have experienced extreme price swings and high volatility over the past several years. Unpredictable weather (ex: polar vortex), changing fundamentals between supply and demand, dynamic natural gas storage data, and the regional extraction and transportation of natural gas for the global LNG markets are all contributing factors to the increased volatility.  NWEG will help customers navigate this ever-changing landscape by using unique procurement strategies, mitigating risk, and representing our customers’ interest with the supplier community.

  1. Blended Managed Pools – Groups of Buyers or Associations utilizing both the Wholesale and Index (spot-market) purchases managed by New World– purchasing is made in layers and at the wholesale level rather than at the retail level – thereby introducing ongoing competition. For small and medium users that like dollar-cost averaging or blending, a pool is the only option.
  2. Blended Stand-Alone – Individual Buyer, with one or multiple facilities utilizing both the wholesale and Index (spot-market) purchase, end use make the final purchasing decision while New World Energy monitors the market and helps by making procurement recommendations, commonly referred to as “Block + Index” type products, or FIS “flexible-Index solution”.
  3. Fixed (100% Forward market and 0% Spot market purchases) New World will leverage their relationships and conducts a competitive bidding process utilizing our 95 supplier partners. Layered Fixed (100% Forward market and 0% Spot market purchases) This strategy is used where multiple hedges are layered over time to achieve a 100% hedged (fixed price), by taking advantage of market dips and dollar cost averaging.
  4. PERP (Permanent Energy Reduction Plan) – No upfront Capital Needed! This is an energy efficiency program that allows you to build High Impact efficiency into the energy supply contracts (Lighting, HVAC, Water & Sewer conservation, Building Automation etc.) which creates efficiency, and/or lowers the carbon-footprint of a particular facility.
  5. Hybrid – Guaranteed percentage off the utilities PTC., or a lower introductory (Index) rate that converts to a fully fixed contract for the balance of term.
  6. Index Only – (real time) Historically the index has traded lower than the Wholesale market, and thus can be used in our approach to developing a solutions for you. An Index price contract allows you to take advantage of dips in the market. You can float on market prices as you watch for forward market conditions to present an opportunity to lock in when commodity prices are lower.

Demand Response is a voluntary PJM program that compensates end-use (retail) customers for reducing their electricity use (load), when requested by PJM, during periods of high-power prices or when the reliability of the grid is threatened. These customers receive payments from PJM members called Curtailment Service Provider (CSP).

On Bill Funding is one of the most unique and fastest growing products in the Energy sector. On Bill funding for Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) or Energy Reduction Plan (ERP) can be funded through the energy supply contract.  No longer do customers have to finance or raise capital for ECM or ERP’s.   NWEG Energy Reduction Plans (PERP) build Impact efficiency into the energy supply contracts (Lighting, HVAC, Water & Sewer conservation, Building Automation etc.), which creates efficiency, and/or lowers the carbon-footprint of a particular facility.  This option provides Off Balance sheet funding through the energy supply agreement as an operational expense.
